Gold Medalist in Diving at the 1972
Olympic Games in Munich Germany. A remarkable and formidable woman
indeed. Her comeback from a devastating defeat in Mexico City in '68 has
been a true inspiration to many Olympic athletes.
Micki served
her country at the U.S. Air Force Academy for much of her adult life.
She trained divers for the Academy and retired from the Air Force as a Lieutenant Colonel. Her contributions to the sport of diving are highly acclaimed
and she remains actively involved in its ongoing development.
The
Presentation and Engraving
of her Olympic Gold Medal
May 2009
The very modest 1972 Olympic
Diving Champion shared with us a funny story about the presentation and
engraving of her gold medal at the Games in Munich Germany. She also
touches on an interesting interview with her lifelong friend Keith
Jackson after thew awards ceremony.
Keith Jackson, the
distinguished Color Commentator for ABC's Wide World of Sports during
the early high diving era, once said, "I thought high divers were nuts".
He may have been right, but his involvement gave the sport of
professional high diving a tremendous boost in the sixties and
seventies. That was of course prior to his spectacular career as the
famous "Woe Nellie" announcer for college football...a true professional
in every respect and a great guy!
The
Wisdom Of Dick Kimball
May 2009
Micki
talks about the "brilliance" of Olympic Diving Coach Dick Kimball,
who mystically motivated and inspired her to win her Gold Medal at the
1972 Olympic
Games in Munich Germany. And Dick's record as a coach speaks for itself. He not only taught his students how to dive...he taught them how to win!
